1. Lake Te Ko Utu (2 min drive/10 min walk)

2. Maungakawa (Sanitorium Hill)(5 min drive/25 min cycle ride)

Lovely views over Cambridge area, native bush walk (approximately 20 minutes duration). Maungakawa offers a very good opportunity to see tui and wood pigeon. The area is particularly lovely during spring with the sea of daffodils and other spring flowers.

An ecological delight - this 3,400 hectare mountain is protected by a pest proof fence to enable native wildlife to be released.
Enjoy a walk through regenerating forest along wide metalled tracks, climb the 16 metre forest canopy viewing tower, watch the kaka being fed and perhaps catch a glimpse of the hihi (stitchbirds) at their feeders.
At nights listen to the kiwi call.
Walking options: One to two hour walks within the southern and northern enclosures. Full day treks to Pukeatua peak, Maungatautari peak, or across the mountain
4. Lake Karapiro (10 min drive)
The jewel in the crown of Waipa District, Lake Karapiro is an international classwater sports venue, offering 7.7sq km of flat water for canoeists, water-skiers, yachties and boaties and of course rowers. Lake Karapiro is home to the 2010 World Rowing Championships in September 2010.
